Introverts and extroverts

(credit to MiaMan on tumblr for these drawings - they're fab)

You might be wondering what the hell those massive words are in the title. Let me give you a brief description. If you're an introvert, it means you get your energy from being alone and you lose it when you're in public/around people. Extroverts are the opposite. They lose their energy when they're alone and therefore prefer to be around others. People often mistake introverts, such as myself, to be very shy and antisocial. This is not the case - I like talking to people but I hate talking to lots of people and making small talk with people for ages and being surrounded by strangers. I get my comfort from being alone, on my laptop, which is what I'm doing right now.
(Bare in mind that introverts and extroverts are just part of a personality theory.)
Not all introverts are the same, though. Most are functional in groups and are awesome with people they know well and they can get along with them, however get parylsed around strangers and want to get out of any situation with them.

For example, if an introverted person was at a party with lots of strangers, they'd be quite uncomfortable.
Extroverted people could easily talk to them.
Not all introverted people are the same, as mentioned. Some could talk to the strangers for a bit of time, but would want their alone time as well.

I just want to establish that being an introvert is not a trend and nor is being an extrovert. You can be both, or a mixture of the two. Or you can be neither, if that's what suits you. (RHYMES FTW)

Just as a quick summary, introverts like their alone time and extroverts like being around people.
But all of our personalities are different. :D

Annoying social networks

It's easily said. I love to use social networking sites. I use the internet almost all day. Almost everyone of this generation that I know uses at least one form of social networking. It's good! 'Keeps you in touch with old friends, lets you organize events, lets you bond closer with your current friends and is also a good form of entertainment. (browsing through your tumblr dash.)  But alas.... these websites are open to all kinds of people. And I mean ALL KINDS.
This means.... stupid people.

(DISCLAIMER: This is not directed at anyone I know. I'm not a hater! I'm just expressing my opinion. That's what this blog is for.)

Annoying person on social networks #1:
The attention seeker.

They are everywhere and not just on social networks. Here is an example of an attention-craving post, even though there are many examples.

It's the post in the middle. The purposely mysterious one where the author wants to let everyone know that something is going wrong in their life, and when people ask about what's going on, they 'don't want to get into it.' This is very annoying for the people who are trying to help you. When they are actually caring enough to ask what's wrong, at least tell them what's going on. And if it's an indirect (woahhh DON'T GET ME STARTED ON INDIRECTS) specifically meant for one person, then send them a message if it's that personal.

Annoying person on social networks #2:
The selfie-overloader.

Okay, let's get this established. It's PERFECTLY FINE to take selfies. They boost your confidence and make you feel good about yourself, which is a 100% good thing! But if your entire instagram/facebook is basically selfies of your 'new shirt!' when more of your face is in the picture rather than the actual excuse, then things can get a bit annoying for others scrolling down their newsfeed (if they're on facebook.)
I have to admit that one time, I was this person. I would take lots of selfies mainly because I liked taking pictures and because of a 'new haircut' or 'new jumper.' But I realised that my face doesn't change every single day, so I limited the selfies. (DISCLAIMER: I love selfies! Just don't overdo it.)

Annoying person on social networks #3:
The troll.

Mkay, so someone's posted a really happy status which is really good for them and it's a good time in their lives. Suddenly a troll (hater) comes along and ruins it.

Happy person's status: "I'VE FINALLY MET MY GOAL AND LOST 10LBS! :D #proud"
Troll: "Umm then why do you look exactly the same?"

Before you post something, think this to yourself.
"Am I posting this just to hurt someone?"

Because if you get confronted about it in real life, well, don't say I didn't warn you.

Annoying person on social networks #4:
The sport-enthusiast.

Look, I understand if it's a huge game on TV or if you played in a game and want to announce the score. That's fine. But honestly, if every single facebook status you write is literally some long paragraph like:

'GOAL SCORE TOUCH-POINT 5 YARDS TO 2ND BASE 30 NIL'

then you should probably take into account that it sounds like gibberish to the rest of us who don't watch sport.
Someone seriously needs to make a sport social network where all the sport enthusiasts can just rant about every single thing that they're watching because it's pretty annoying.

Annoying person on social networks #5:
The hashtagger.

Ok, nothing's wrong with using hashtags.... in moderation.

Don't.

'Omggg that #akward #moment when u go 2 mak #toast.... AN DERE'S NO #BREAD!!!1 #firstworldproblemz #fml #mylifeissooohard #likeifdishappenedtoyou #oryouwilldiein7days #lol'

Hashtags are just annoying.
Especially on facebook.
(unless they're used ironically.)

I really hope you don't do these. :D

Who am I?

Hello internet.
My name is Harriet. (Not going to say my last name for privacy purposes.) :)
Welcome to my blog, which I decided to write out of complete boredom.
I was inspired by the famous youtuber, (with now over 4,000,000 subscribers! Congratulations,) Zoella to make a blog. She runs a blog too. Check it out: http://www.zoella.co.uk/ . I adore all of her videos and they have made me start a lot of new hobbies too, such as baking, internetting (ooh a new verb), make-up, putting together outfits and writing. I don't do THAT much make-up, as I don't want to start wearing foundation, concealer etc. as I'm 13. Apparently it gives you spots and you'll have to keep on wearing it and it'll cost quite a bit, so I want to save that until later. I still have to deal with my stupid blemishes though. Oh, the joys of being a teenager. .-. My make-up look is kept as toned-down as possible, as I like the natural kind of look. To achieve this look, I usually wear brown waterproof mascara and sometimes a smidge of black eye-pencil, usually put on the edge of my eyelid in a veeeeery thin layer. This gives a small illusion of your eyes looking bigger. I love big eyes.

I live in a small town in West London, in a small house with a small family. I live with my mum and my sister. I go to a small school, which I usually take the bus to. I'm going to study music, german, geography and science. I adore music - it is probably my only real talent, unless writing counts. I'm also pretty linguistic and geography and science interests me. I want to do everything, including graphics, art and drama. But I have priorities, and I can always use graphics, art and drama in my spare time as hobbies. I play 5 musical instruments, two of which are major and I take grades for. These are the cello and the piano. I am currently doing my grade 5 cello and my grade 4 piano, which is ok for my age. I also play the drumkit in my spare time, just for fun, the ukelele and I sing. (Vocals are an instrument, in case you didn't know!)

Another one of my hobbies is gaming. I love computers and any sort of gaming console. I only own a computer, 3DS and a Wii (I never use the Wii now) however, and I really want an Xbox. However, as I'm almost going to KS4, gaming would take up revision time and getting an Xbox wouldn't really be productive. It's annoying though - I love all sorts of games. First person shooters (almost always TF2), sandbox (minecraft), puzzles (portal 2) and any other games with an aim. (Pokemon.... shhhh).

I also LOVE to read. Any sort of story I WILL read. I absolutely love Harry Potter. (we have a potterhead) I'm in Ravenclaw. I am at the moment obsessed with John Green's books. I recently finished The Fault In Our Stars with tears in my eyes, and I now want to read An Abundance Of Katherines. (or whatever it's called.) Stories are a big part of my life. Someday, I want to write my own.

I don't have much idea of what I want to do in the future. I want to get really good grades and do something to do with the internet/music, but I'm not sure what else. Music doesn't get you a lot of money to earn a living from. Nor does the internet. But I don't want to be doing something that I hate. That makes life terrible and I want to be happy. That's what I think the meaning of life is. To be happy. But I'll cover that in another post.

As I've been typing this I think I've come across as someone who is full of themselves and loves themselves to pieces and that I think everyone else around me is not as important as me. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. I used to have extremely low self esteem. My self esteem now is a lot higher, as I've found an amazing person who I love to pieces. He's told me and made me believe that I am a better person than I think I am. He's kinda made me who I am today and he's shaped my outlook on myself. I am NOT FULL OF MYSELF AT ALL OK AND I DISLIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE LOVE THEMSELVES AND TREAT EVERYONE AROUND THEM BADLY OK I'M NOT THAT PERSON but I'm more confident in myself than I ever was and at the moment I'm going through a rough time, but it may be the best time. I think I'm going through a life-shaping time period for myself. Woo.

That's basically the author covered, but you'll find out more about me in my posts in the future.

Welcome to the land of Harriet.

Hello everybody! :)

Ok let me clear a few things up before I start right away on this blog. :)
My name is Harriet and I'm 13, turning 14 on the 12th of August.

My life is a bit of a rollarcoaster, really. As is anyone else's life. Nobody's life is full of ups, and nobody's life is full of downs. It is always a mixture, no matter who you are. And I want to share as much of mine as I can with the internet. (Not everything, of course. Everyone deserves a personal life. Just the things I am comfortable with sharing with the internet.)

This blog is mainly for my innermost thoughts about stuff going on, my opinions on random things and what I get up to in my life. (Of course, MOST things. Not everything.) :)

I hope you like this weird journey of a weird girl, living a weird life in a weird world.
